How to make the most of your garden
Small gardens
First things first, think about how you’re going to be using your garden. If you have children then you probably want to keep the grass but if not, then you could replace it with paving and decking.
Vertical climbing plants can add the colour and greenery you crave whilst still leaving room for a small seating area. Vertical plants can also help to cover up some features that you’d rather hide like a garage wall or a fence.
Speaking of seating areas, recessed seating is a great way to make use of your limited space if you regularly entertain guests. You could also clad a raised bed and use our Garden Furniture Oil to protect the wood and transform it into a key feature of your garden.
You might not get to use your garden that often, but at least you’ll have a nice space for entertaining guests.
Paved gardensIf your garden is a grey sea of paving slabs that abruptly ends in a fence or a wall, don’t despair! There are still ways you can turn it into a relaxing space.
Get creative and paint your wall or fence a bright colour to liven up your garden. Our Garden Paint can be applied to wood, brick terracotta and metal. We’ve got 24 colours for you to choose from, so no matter how bright you fancy it, we’ve got the colour for you.
You might not have any grass or soil, but you can still introduce plenty of potted plants. From small, delicate flowers to larger topiary trees, there are plenty of plants that thrive in pots and can add that much needed natural touch to your garden.
If you have furniture, you could add small touches of drama by painting it a contrasting colour to your walls and fence. Combine this with a small chimenea and tea lights for a garden that’s inviting on both summer evenings and autumn nights.
Large gardensIf you’re lucky enough to have a large garden then your possibilities are almost endless. Don’t let this intimidate you though, if you focus on your garden section by section then you’ll soon have a space that you love.
One of the trickiest parts of having a big garden (other than the maintenance!) is filling the space. Whilst a luscious green lawn is fantastic, sometimes there’s only so much space you need. Trees and large bushes are good for covering ground and can also attract wildlife. Consider dividing your outdoor space into individual ‘mini’ gardens and introduce some furniture to provide valuable seating space for guests. This can also help to create privacy from the rest of your garden.
A large space also gives you the opportunity to create a truly breath-taking entertaining space. You could create your dream seating area complete with a firepit, BBQ, and maybe even a pool.
