Use on...
Smooth planed wood
To give you an idea of how much you need, a 750ml tin is enough to strip a garden table and a couple of chairs.
- Before picking up any tools, make sure the weather is mild (above 10°C) and there’s no rain forecast. If it’s too cold, the stripper might take longer to work or not work at all.
- Use a damp cloth or a stiff wire brush to wipe down your furniture and remove any ingrained dirt.
- Protect the surrounding area with dust sheets to prevent them from getting splashed with stripper.
- Put on some gloves and give the tin a good shake.
- Put loads of stripper on your brush – the more you put on, the better it’ll work.
- Brush the stripper on your garden furniture.
- Leave it to work for 30 minutes. Our special formula won’t blister or fizz but that doesn’t mean it’s not working! Be careful not to let the stripper dry out otherwise it won’t work.
- Use a scraper and test a small patch of the furniture to see if the stripper is ready to be removed. If the paint, stain or oil has come off then your furniture is ready to be scrubbed, if not, apply more stripper and wait 10 minutes.
- Once the stripper is ready to be removed, grab a stiff hand brush and start scrubbing. If your furniture has slats, you might need to use a paint scraper to help get in the hard-to-reach places.
- As the stripper is coming off, pour on a bit of water and keep scrubbing. This will help to remove everything on the surface.
- Hose down your furniture until the water runs clear and leave it to dry.
- Wait a day or two for it to completely dry out before applying a new finish.
Cleaning
Scrape as much stripper off your tools as possible before washing them in warm soapy water.
If you have leftover stripper you want to get rid of, don’t pour it down the drain. Contact your local council for information on how to get rid of unused product.
Maintenance
You should never leave your garden furniture bare and without a finish. This will leave it unprotected and it could become rotten in the rain or grey in the sunshine.
After you’ve finished stripping the surface, apply another paint, oil or stain to ensure it’s properly protected.
